The General Secretary of the Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) Comrade Ayoade Ibrahim has described some unverified rumours about his suspension as AUATON general secretary as mere speculations that lack merits.

Comrade Ayoade Ibrahim while speaking with the newsmen on Saturday said that there is no iota of truth in the information regarding suspension rumors on the position of the General Secretary of AUATON.

Ayoade called on AUATON members and the general public to disregard the lies and fake news being circulated by some members of the union who have been working against the stability of the App-based transport sector.

“There is no iota of truth in the information regarding suspension rumors on the position of the General Secretary of AUATON.

“It is important to note that AUATON currently has no National Executive Council(NEC) according to the Constitution of AUATON.

“National Executive Council is the only body of the union that can suspend or remove the General Secretary or any other erring officer whose misconduct has been established.

“The comrades making these unfounded rumors are comrades who have conflicts of interest and criminal records in the union, and all of them have all been suspended from the union till further notice, “he said.

It would be recalled that a major leadership crisis has been brewing within the Nigerian e-hailing driver’s union, the Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON), following alleged criminal report against its president, Comrade Adedamola Adeniran in the US.

The crisis had made some union members petitioned its leadership to take drastic disciplinary actions against the union leader.

The petition was said to have been delivered to the Ministry of Labour and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC)- the umbrella body whom the AUATON is affiliated
