●Dangote Foundation Commends Governor Makinde’s Efforts
The Oyo State Government has commenced the second phase of its Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) initiative with the distribution of 10kg bags of rice to 30,000 vulnerable residents across the state.
The launch ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Local Government Training School, Secretariat, Ibadan. Speaking at the event, Professor Musibau Babatunde, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning and Secretary of the SAfER Committee, stated that the initiative targets the socioeconomically disadvantaged, including widows, the elderly, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups across the state’s 33 local government areas.
“This food support is part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s ongoing commitment to reduce poverty and enhance the welfare of Oyo residents,” Babatunde said. “It also reflects our strategic partnership with the private sector to reach those most in need.”
The rice donation was made by the Aliko Dangote Foundation as part of its broader nationwide initiative to distribute one million 10kg bags of rice to Nigerians facing economic hardship.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Edero Victor Ejiro, Head of Operations at the Dangote Foundation, praised Governor Makinde’s administration for its dedication to supporting the less privileged. “This effort aligns with our core pillars of intervention—empowerment, nutrition, and education,” Ejiro said. “We’re proud to support Oyo State in its mission to combat hunger and poverty.”
He urged recipients to share the food with others in need and expressed confidence in the state’s distribution process. “We believe the SAfER Committee will ensure this rice reaches the intended beneficiaries effectively,” he added.
Hon. Olufemi Timothy, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Disability Matters, extended gratitude on behalf of the state to the Foundation and the governor for their continued support.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Omotayo Borode, Alhaji Tajudeen Olapade, and Mr. Emmanuel Adepoju, also expressed heartfelt appreciation for the assistance.
Government officials and representatives from all 33 local governments were present at the event.
