Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of two prominent Nigerian figures—former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON.
In a solemn condolence message, Senator Dickson extended heartfelt sympathies to the family of the late President Buhari, the government and people of Katsina State, and the Daura Emirate. He acknowledged the former President’s decades of service to Nigeria both in the military and in democratic leadership.
“Former President Buhari was one of the few Nigerians privileged to lead this country as Head of State and later as a two-term civilian President. He clearly did his best and has now returned to his Creator,” Dickson said. “I pray that God grants his soul eternal rest and also grants his family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
The former Bayelsa governor also paid tribute to the revered monarch, Oba Sikiru Adetona, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Ijebuland, Ogun State, and Nigeria at large. Dickson, a Prince from the Fidipote Royal Family, recalled the deep connection he shared with the Awujale.
“There’s no doubt that His Royal Majesty lived the entirety of his life in service to our people,” he said. “Apart from being the longest-serving traditional ruler in Nigeria, he used his wisdom and leadership to strengthen the cultural heritage and unity of Ijebuland.”
Dickson highlighted Oba Adetona’s legacy of peace and progress throughout his 65-year reign, noting that the monarch ascended the throne at the youthful age of 26 and ruled with remarkable vision.
“As one of the sons he took closely to heart, I enjoyed his constant support, encouragement, and prayers,” Dickson stated. “Today, I join all sons and daughters of Ijebuland at home and abroad in mourning our father and king, and in celebrating a life well lived in service to humanity.”
