Tswaing Local Municipality Mayor, Norah Mahlangu, has taken a one-month special leave following the circulation of an explicit video featuring her. The footage, reportedly leaked on a WhatsApp group linked to the African National Congress (ANC) provincial structures, quickly spread among party members in the North West.
Sources indicate that Mahlangu has been deeply affected by the incident, with reports suggesting she fell into depression due to public scrutiny and embarrassment. The last time she was seen in public was at the funeral of two municipal workers who lost their lives while attempting to unblock a drainage system in Agisanang township. At the event, she called for an investigation into the tragedy.

Tswaing Speaker, Sam Letlakane, confirmed that Mahlangu was highly distressed and needed time away from work to recover.
While the exact circumstances of the video leak remain unclear, speculation suggests it was originally intended for a private recipient. Reports allege that the recipient may have attempted to extort Mahlangu, and after she refused, the video was shared with political opponents in an effort to tarnish her reputation ahead of the next local government elections.
