Muhammad Adekunle, a suspected serial ritual killer, has confessed to conspiring with others to kill and sell the human remains of a 14-year-old boy, Malik Kareem, to a female trader at the Oje Market in Ibadan for 70,000 naira.
This tragic incident occurred on August 7, 2024, when Malik was gruesomely murdered and beheaded in Ibadan. According to the Oyo State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Ayodele Sonubi, Adekunle and his accomplices Lukman, Olobe, and Ifa – who are currently at large – lured Adekola Sodiq to Moniya in January 2024, where they beheaded him and severed his legs. These body parts were then sold to Obaleye Sanmi and Ismail Olalekan.
During the press conference on Friday, August 16, 2024, in Eleyele, Ibadan, CP Sonubi paraded Adekunle, the female trader Rashidat Akanji, and other suspects, labeling them as serial killers. The police revealed that on August 7, 2024, Adekunle and his accomplices stabbed Malik Kareem to death, and his head and legs were subsequently sold to Akanji at Oje Market for 70,000 naira.
Further investigations led to the execution of a search warrant at the suspects’ homes on August 11, 2024, where fresh human flesh believed to be from Malik Kareem was recovered. Adekunle confessed that the flesh was from the 14-year-old boy they had killed just days earlier. Other suspects, including Muniru Salawudeen, Ismail Olalekan, and Obaleye Sanmi, were also arrested and confessed to purchasing various human parts from Adekunle for use in money rituals.
In a related incident, on August 10, 2024, a resident named Ayede reported a foul odor emanating from a building owned by Muhammad Adekunle. Upon investigation, a dry well containing the remains of three unidentified individuals was discovered in the compound. The remains were transported to the State Hospital Morgue for further examination.
The Oyo State Police Command has vowed to leave no stone unturned in its investigation to bring all the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice.
