A lecturer at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Dr. Kadiri Akeem Babalola, an esteemed Associate Professor of Botany, is facing serious allegations of rape made by one of his students. The young undergraduate went to his office seeking assistance with her results, but instead of addressing her concerns, Babalola allegedly violated her on August 16, 2023.

After reporting the incident to the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation, a respected NGO, the victim revealed that the lecturer forcibly raped her. The NGO promptly informed the Gender Unit of the state police command, leading to the involvement of the state CP, Idowu Owohunwa, who issued a warrant of arrest for Babalola through the state High Court. The Vice Chancellor of UNILAG was also informed and given a seven-day ultimatum to produce the accused.

Upon being summoned for questioning by the Vice Chancellor, the lecturer, according to the NGO, confessed to the crime. Subsequently, the Vice Chancellor promptly informed the police through the Chief Security Officer of the university, resulting in Babalola’s arrest.
