Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, a renowned academic and political figure, has paid glowing tribute to his longtime friend, Obatunde Oladapo, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, reflecting on a friendship that has spanned over four decades.
In a special celebration, Prof. Olowofela recounted how their journey began at United Secondary School, Omi-Adio, where they both studied before pursuing tertiary education along different paths. Despite the divergence, fate brought them back together during their early career struggles, culminating in the founding of Intellect Investment Ltd., a successful enterprise focused on computer and management training.
Olowofela highlighted the pivotal support of Professor Remi Alabi, former Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in establishing the firm’s credibility and success, not only in training delivery but also in accounting solutions for institutions.
Their partnership extended beyond business into politics, with both men hailing from Ido Local Government. Obatunde, a prince from Ido, and Olowofela, also a prominent figure, were active participants in various political parties over the years, from Zero Party to the current All Progressives Congress (APC). Both have held significant political positions, including Obatunde’s tenure as Executive Director of the Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA).
Prof. Olowofela also lauded Oladapo’s resilience, recalling a serious illness he battled in 1993, which many feared would be terminal. “Against all odds, he survived and has continued to thrive,” he said, noting Oladapo’s substantial contributions through NGOs such as the Positive Association of Nigeria, where Olowofela served as Board Chairman.
In closing, Professor Olowofela congratulated his friend on reaching the milestone age of 60, celebrating a life marked by grace, impact, and enduring friendship.
