Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved the reappointment of Prince Adebayo Adegbola as the Eleruwa of Eruwa, reinstating him five years after his deposition by the Supreme Court.
Prince Adegbola initially ascended to the throne in 1998 but was removed in 2019 following a Supreme Court judgment that declared his appointment illegal. The stool of Eleruwa remained vacant until recent legal proceedings concluded, specifically the dismissal of Suit No. HER/10/23 by the High Court of Oyo State on October 22, 2024.
Governor Makinde’s decision to reinstate Prince Adegbola was influenced by the inability of the Laribikusi Ruling Quarters to nominate candidates within the stipulated timeframe, as outlined in Section 15(1) of the Chiefs Law Cap 28 of Oyo State. Consequently, the Akalako Ruling House was recognized as the next in line to nominate candidates. After a thorough selection process, the kingmakers of Eruwa unanimously selected Prince Adegbola as the sole candidate to fill the vacant stool.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, noted that with Prince Adegbola’s emergence, the Seyi Makinde administration has coronated 11 kings and 40 Baales, marking a record in the history of the Yoruba traditional institution. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, called on all sons and daughters of Eruwa to welcome the new Eleruwa and celebrate his ascension for the growth and prosperity of Eruwa land.
