Fresh reports have emerged alleging that Nigerian music star, David Adeleke (Davido), his father Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, and Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, have been personally funding workers’ salaries in Osun State for the past six months.
The revelation was made by elder statesman and former governor of Ondo State, Chief Bode George, during an interview on Nigeria Info FM Lagos 99.3.
George, while speaking on the controversy surrounding withheld local government allocations by the Federal Government, claimed that Osun State has been denied access to its statutory local government funds from the Federation Account, leaving the state in dire financial straits.
According to him, the debt owed to Osun runs into over N5 billion, a situation which he said has forced the Adeleke family to step in to cushion the effect on civil servants.
“The Governor told me the last time we spoke that for the past six months, they have been paying workers’ salaries from their personal pockets — himself, Davido, and his father,” George alleged during the interview.
He further disclosed that Governor Adeleke had confided in him about the frustration caused by the lingering situation, adding that the Osun helmsman is “seriously considering dumping the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)” over internal and external political pressures.
