Authorities in Ogun State have arrested a woman and her four sons for allegedly tying up and attempting to harm her husband, a retired civil servant, in a shocking dispute over his retirement benefits. The disturbing incident took place in Oko-Filling, Araromi, Ijoko, Sango Ota, in the early hours of Thursday, March 13.
The victim was found bound, gagged, and left for dead inside his residence after concerned neighbors, alerted by unusual noises, forcibly entered the house. A local landlord, speaking to The Nation, described the horrifying scene, stating, “He was tied like an animal to be slaughtered. They (his wife and children) brought in about six men, presumably hired to restrain him.”
According to eyewitnesses, the commotion from the family’s attempt to move out of the house in a small bus (Korope) drew the attention of residents. Suspicious of their activities, the neighbors inquired about the whereabouts of the man. Dissatisfied with the responses given by the suspects, the crowd forced their way into the residence and discovered the victim completely tied up, with the hired men still present.
Investigations revealed that the retired civil servant had allocated part of his retirement benefits to support his family, including setting up two shops for his wife with N3 million and purchasing a N12 million car for himself. However, his wife and their four university-educated sons reportedly found this insufficient and demanded more of the funds.
The victim was promptly untied and rushed to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Police officers arrested the suspects, including the hired men. One of the hired individuals reportedly confessed that the man’s wife had contracted them for the act. The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
