The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man identified as Friday Onu, who was caught on video assaulting a woman near the Oriental Hotel in Lagos. The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows the victim, Yetunde Amole, being attacked after reportedly confronting the suspect as he attempted to steal her car battery.
The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on April 7, 2025. According to police reports, Amole bravely intervened to stop the theft, prompting the suspect to assault her.
Officers from the Maroko Division responded swiftly to the scene and apprehended Onu shortly after the incident. He was taken into custody and was being prepared for arraignment when he suddenly fell ill. He has since been transferred to Falomo Police Hospital, where he is receiving treatment under police supervision.
The Lagos State Police Command has condemned the attack and assured the public that the suspect will face justice. Once deemed medically fit, Onu will be charged in court.
