The woman who went viral for tearing her husband’s Nigerian passport at the Lagos airport has spoken out about her actions.
In a video posted on Monday, Mrs. Igiebor, a content creator known for sharing content about her husband and kids on TikTok, explained the reasons behind her dramatic outburst.
According to Mrs. Igiebor, she and her husband have been facing longstanding family issues even before they returned to Nigeria from Europe. “This issue has been going on for a long time. And I have to do what I did. Don’t just look at my actions alone. I’m not a mad woman. I have gone through so many things. I have my own reasons,” she said.
Mrs. Igiebor claimed her husband had been neglecting her in favor of his family members. “My husband is a mother’s boy, sister’s and brother’s best brother. Making me the wife to be suffering,” she said, adding that she destroyed the passport to prevent her husband from returning to Europe.
“To be sincere, I did it so my husband would not return (to Europe). I have gone through pain. Many don’t know what I’m going through,” she explained.
The woman apologized to Nigerians who were angered by her actions and to the Nigerian Immigration Service, which has launched a formal investigation into the incident.
Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended) prohibits the willful destruction of Nigerian travel documents, and the service has emphasized its dedication to enforcing the law to safeguard national security and preserve the integrity of Nigeria’s legal and diplomatic instruments.
While Mrs. Igiebor did not provide specific details about the family issues that led to the passport destruction, her video has shed light on the personal struggles that may have contributed to the viral incident.
