A Magistrate’s Court in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, has ordered the remand of a 20-year-old woman, Joy Ikoja, for allegedly causing serious injury to her boyfriend, Ibrahim Usman.

Ikoja was arraigned on Tuesday by the Ekiti State Police Command, accused of tearing her boyfriend’s scrotal sac during an altercation that reportedly took place around 8 p.m. on April 12 in the Irona area of Ado-Ekiti.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Adeboye Adesegun, told the court that the defendant unlawfully inflicted the injury and also behaved in a manner that could disturb public peace. He noted that the alleged offences are in violation of Sections 186, 255, 256(a), and 181(d) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law of 2021.

Inspector Adesegun opposed bail for the defendant, arguing she might flee. However, her legal counsel, David Ogbede, pleaded for bail, emphasizing her right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola denied the bail application and ordered Ikoja to be remanded at the Ado Ekiti Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned to April 22 for hearing.
