In a display of desperation amid the worsening hunger crisis in the country, a group of young people in Kano State descended on a stalled truck carrying cow meat and made off with large portions of the cargo.

The incident occurred after the truck, which was transporting the livestock, experienced mechanical issues and pulled over to the side of the road. As the driver worked to repair the vehicle, a crowd of hungry youths quickly gathered and began looting the truck’s contents.

According to eyewitness Olaudah Equaino, the youths were seen climbing onto the truck and carting away pieces of the cow meat that they could get their hands on. While there are reports that the cows were slaughtered inside the vehicle, the viral footage only shows the young people moving around with the meat.
