A suspected kidnapper from Abuja, Chinaza Philip-Okoye, claims that he is actually an armed robber and not a kidnapper.
The suspect expressed his discontent with being labeled as a kidnapper during his public parade by the police. He explained that his original intention that night was to rob the victim and steal his car. However, his boss, known as Yellow, ordered the victim to sit in the back of the car after the robbery.
The suspect argues that he did not know why Yellow made that decision, and he did not argue with him. He states that they were on their way to Kano when the police intercepted them, and he was arrested in Kaduna.
The police, on the other hand, firmly believe that the suspect is a notorious kidnapper who had been previously apprehended and is currently being tried for kidnapping in an Abuja High Court.
They claim that he resumed his criminal activities immediately after being granted bail. The suspect was paraded on a stretcher at the Force Intelligence Response Team base by the police, as he had sustained serious injuries from being shot by officers during the interception of his gang at a filling station.
Despite this, the police maintain that he is a well-known kidnapper who had been caught before and was being tried for kidnapping in an Abuja High Court before being granted bail. Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, stated that the suspect returned to his criminal endeavors soon after being released on bail.
On Saturday, the Nigeria Police Force paraded Chinaza Philip-Okoye on a stretcher at the Force Intelligence Response Team base in Guzape, Federal Capital Territory. Reports indicate that the suspect sustained severe injuries after being shot by police officers during the interception of his gang at a filling station on Thursday night.
