In the past, it was a common belief that a woman’s body belonged solely to her husband upon marriage. However, this narrative has undergone a significant transformation over the years.

“Once, a young woman’s entry into marriage was accompanied by a subconscious belief that her body was strictly for her husband alone,” explains relationship counselor, Dr. Sarah Wilkins. “But this perception has gradually shifted, and the sanctity of matrimonial bliss is now being challenged.”

Experts suggest that the changing dynamics within marriages have contributed to this shift. “Many husbands have abused the trust and grace that their wives placed in them,” says sociologist, Dr. Emily Lowe. “This has led to a gradual erosion of the consciousness surrounding the sacred bond of marriage.”

While infidelity is never condoned, some experts offer insights into the factors that may drive a wife to stray. “It’s not uncommon for a wife to seek companionship, emotional or sexual fulfillment elsewhere if her husband is neglectful, abusive, or unable to meet her needs,” notes Dr. Wilkins.

One scenario that may lead to infidelity is when a husband is perceived as lazy or unable to provide for the family. “If a woman is forced to shoulder all the financial responsibilities while her husband makes excuses, she may turn to someone else who can fulfill her expectations of a strong, capable partner,” explains Dr. Lowe.

Another factor is a lack of sexual fulfillment. “Some men are oblivious to their wife’s needs during intimate moments, focusing solely on their own satisfaction. This can leave the wife feeling unfulfilled and longing for someone who can make her feel truly cherished,” says Dr. Wilkins.

The desire for companionship, where a spouse can confide in someone without fear or shame, is also a common driver for infidelity. “When there’s a void in the marriage where the couple doesn’t experience that deep connection, the wife may find it in someone else, whether it’s a close friend or a coworker,” adds Dr. Lowe.

Experts emphasize that while these factors may contribute to a wife’s decision to cheat, it’s essential to address the underlying issues within the marriage. “Healthy communication, mutual understanding, and a willingness to work on the relationship are crucial in preventing and overcoming infidelity,” concludes Dr. Wilkins.
