Journalist David Hundeyin has come forward with evidence of an attempt to undermine the Dangote Refinery in Nigeria. Hundeyin claims he was offered 800,000 Naira (approximately $1,900 USD) by an international NGO called Dialogue Earth to write an article criticizing the refinery on environmental grounds.

According to Hundeyin, the NGO, which was formerly known as the China Dialogue Trust, wanted him to argue that the Dangote Refinery is “terrible for the environment” due to concerns over climate change and Nigeria’s energy transition policies. Hundeyin says the unstated goal was to provide a basis for the Nigerian government to shut down or limit the refinery.

However, Hundeyin saw through the NGO’s motives and instead decided to expose the attempt publicly. He alleges that Dialogue Earth is funded by American intelligence fronts such as the Ford Foundation and ClimateWorks, which has been blacklisted in India for funding organizations seen as working against the country’s national interests.

Hundeyin argues that there are “American and European state and private interests” invested in keeping Africa impoverished and preventing its development. He believes these forces are behind the push to undermine the Dangote Refinery, which he says will help wean West Africa off its dependency on fuel imports from Europe.

The journalist has made it clear that he will not be complicit in campaigns to prolong Africa’s poverty, stating: “It is not the rich white men hiding behind these ‘Climate Advocacy NGOs’ who will tell us what to do with our energy reserves, and by what means we are allowed to escape the poverty that they engineered for us.”
