Lagos, Nigeria – A 58-year-old man has tragically passed away after embarking on an extended spiritual dry fast in Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the incident occurred on Monday morning around 6:00 AM in the Alagbado area of the state.
Hundeyin stated that the deceased man’s younger brother reported the incident to the Alagbado Police Division at around 7:00 PM on Monday. The younger brother informed the police that his sibling had died while allegedly undergoing a 19-day dry fasting period.
The police spokesperson confirmed that no foul play is suspected in the man’s death, and the family has requested to convey the body for burial.
Dry fasting, the practice of abstaining from both food and water for an extended period, is sometimes undertaken for spiritual or religious reasons. However, medical experts have cautioned that prolonged dry fasting can be extremely dangerous and potentially life-threatening.
