The police in Lagos State has come under pressure to grant administrative bail to Balogun Olamilekan Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, who is currently in custody for questioning regarding the sudden and controversial death of pop singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
According to The Guardian, it was reported that some sources within the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Yaba, Lagos, have informed their correspondent that there have been numerous phone calls to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Waheed Ayilara, the Officer in Charge (O/C) of SCIID, requesting the release of the suspect, as these callers have promised to ensure his appearance whenever required by the authorities.
A police source who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “There have been several calls to my boss to release Eletu, while the investigation continues. A renowned traditional ruler on the Island (names withheld) is always calling, pleading with my boss to release him after interrogation.”
Further talking, the source said, “When he became persistent, my boss directed him to the Commissioner of Police (CP), on the ground that he is the only one that can give the order for Eletu’s release or otherwise.”
The police stated that investigations into the singer’s death were still ongoing, and they were actively pursuing other leads. Eletu was apprehended during the early hours of Thursday at a concealed location on Lagos Island.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, confirmed this development.
Additionally, a source claimed that Eletu confessed to the police that his dispute with Mohbad stemmed from an outstanding debt of N2 million that the singer had allegedly failed to repay.
According to the source, Eletu acknowledged attending the late singer’s show before his death, purportedly to demand the money owed to him.
