Mutkhtar Babatunde from Tiger Golf Club (TGC) claimed a historic trophy as he took the 71st position out of 130 participants at the Junior Open Championship event that took place at Ikeja Golf club, Lagos between 18th and 19th October 2024.

Over 130 entries of very talented junior players from around Nigeria and Ghana were recorded. The Tiger Golf Club were represented by Aishat Babatunde, Mutkhtar Babatunde, Firdaous Babatunde, and Salawudeen Oyewusi.

The players were splinted into four categories: Ages 6-8 : Category 4, Ages 9-11: Category 3, Ages12-13 : Category 2, and Ages 14-15 :Category 1 with the groupings for boys and girls.

Mutkhtar Babatunde who just started the game about three months ago along side his two sisters placed 71th position out of 130 participants. He was presentes a trophy as his position coincided with Dr Awa Ibrahim 71st birthday celebration.

The Awa Ibrahim Junior Open Championship game is arranged in line with World Ranking requirement of at least 54 holes.

Recall that Awa Ibraheen Junior Open Golf Championship is still the only event recognized and slated in the Royal & Ancient golf club of St, Andrew Scotland(R&A) Calendar.

This implies that the results from this tournament will be used by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) for rating and also to place participants on scale with their contemporaries from around the world.

Special appreciation must be given to the Executives of the Tiger Golf Club for providing a conducive atmosphere for the kids to train. Further encouragement needs to be given these kids to showcase their talents, thus, they might be the future Tiger Wood and other great golf professionals.
