A Sergeant of the Nigeria Police Force has reportedly killed his own father, who was a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), in Maiduguri, Borno State.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counterterrorism and insurgency expert from the Lake Chad Basin, the incident occurred on Sunday behind the Borno State Police Headquarters located in Modugannari, Maiduguri.

The Sergeant, identified as Sunday Wadzani, is said to have shot and killed his father, who was also a former police officer with the rank of ASP.

At the time of filing this report, the Borno State Police Command is yet to confirm the details of the incident.

The reasons behind the tragic incident are currently unclear, and authorities are likely to launch a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the killing of the retired police officer by his own son, who is also a serving member of the Nigeria Police Force.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the law enforcement community and the public, as it is highly unusual for a police officer to resort to such violence against a close family member, especially a retired colleague.

The Borno State Police Command is expected to provide more information on the case as the investigation progresses.
