The Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic in Ikot Osurua is in a state of fear and mourning after a final year student was murdered by suspected armed robbers.

The victim, identified as Saviour, was a student in the Electrical Electronics Department. He was shot dead on Saturday night while trying to prevent the robbers from taking his cellphone.

According to sources close to the school, the incident occurred around 8 pm in the Ikot Uboh area of Ikot Ekpene, near where the student was living. The armed robbers opened fire on Saviour as he attempted to raise an alarm.

“The perpetrators will be apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law,” said ASP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer. She confirmed that the command is working tirelessly to ensure the culprits are brought to justice.

“It is the determination of CP Waheed Ayilara to rid Akwa Ibom State of criminal elements. And this is not negotiable,” ASP John added.
