Lagos, Nigeria – In a tragic incident that unfolded on Tuesday, May 21st, a soldier lost his life after a truck from a logistics company ran over him at the Orile bus stop in Iganmu, Lagos.

According to eyewitness accounts, the truck driver was reportedly attempting to flee from a group of extortionists who were demanding money from commercial bus drivers in the area. In his haste to escape, the driver lost control of the vehicle, crushing the unsuspecting soldier beneath the truck’s tires.

“The truck’s back tyre crushed the soldier’s head. I couldn’t bear to look at the body again,” a trader in the area recounted, visibly shaken by the horrific scene.

Immediately after the incident, the driver tried to flee the scene, but he was pursued by fellow soldiers who were with the deceased. The chase led to the apprehension of the driver at the Mile 2 area.

Confirming the tragic event, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, stated that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Orile Police Station, along with his team, had visited the scene and witnessed the lifeless body of the soldier.

“After the incident, the DPO of Orile Police Station and his men visited the scene and saw the soldier’s body. The soldiers returned with the truck and driver but took them and the soldier’s body back to their barracks,” Hundeyin said.
